The first record of Bordesley Green was as long ago as 1285 when it was listed as retained and managed pasture and called La Grene de Bordeslei. It began to become developed from the 1830’s, developments that continued well into the 20th century. Because much of the area was being built just after the end of the Boer War, many of the new streets were named in order to commemorate the many men from Birmingham who fought and died in the war.

Bordesley Green became an industrial hub, and as such suffered from several Germain bombing raids during the Second World War.
